Mediatec Bowled Over by MHz Outside Broadcast Trucks

Latest MHz-built OB truck rolls out to deliver live County Cricket

Megahertz (MHz), a leading independent international systems integrator, has recently delivered two custom-built vehicles to Mediatec UK. The outside broadcast (OB) vans will be used in conjunction with modular and mobile LED screens at major sporting, music and corporate events, including coverage of all international and domestic cricket matches. The 2010 season will see over 100 televised matches including the international series against Bangladesh, Australia and Pakistan.

Mediatec UK provides the latest LED screens as part of a range of integrated broadcast and communications solutions for sports, music and corporate events throughout the world.

“LED screens are now an integral part of the cricketing experience. Being awarded the contract by the England and Wales Cricket Board for the next three years made it imperative to appoint a company that had vital knowledge in the outside broadcast field,” said Mike Bone, General Manager at Mediatec UK. “Megahertz’s understanding of our requirements and their ability to design and build the vehicles in a very short space of time — five weeks from placing the order to the point where the trucks were rolled out to cover the first cricket match — is a remarkable achievement by any standard.”

The commission from Mediatec is one of a number of recent projects where MHz has delivered OB solutions to international broadcasters covering major worldwide sporting events including, international football, horseracing, tennis and golf. MHz's breadth of experience and expertise ensures it delivers OB solutions that meet the many technical and operational challenges seen in sports broadcasting today while the swift deployment of quality vehicles provides customers with a quick return on investment.

“We are delighted to have been able to support Mediatec with the build out of their latest HD-compliant OB vehicles — and to do so quickly and cost-effectively to meet their immediate broadcast requirements,” said Frances Jarvis, Managing Director of Megahertz. “We have a breadth of experience in building OB vehicles — from small production vehicles to full-scale large triple-expanding production trailer — that meet the exacting technical specifications and operational requirements of customers like Mediatec.”

Based on a long wheelbase Mercedes, these OB vehicles can be used to support festivals and smaller events where space is restricted. The trucks consist of a range of HD-compliant infrastructure and production equipment from suppliers including Apple, Blackmagic Design, Bryant Broadcast, GVG, Harris, Miranda, Sennheiser and Telex.

Part of the AZCAR Group, one of the worlds largest and longest-established independent broadcast systems integrators, MHz plays a significant role in designing and delivering innovative solutions to the world’s leading broadcasters, telecommunication and digital media companies.
