Javier Studios Deploys Soundcraft Si3 And Vi1 Digital Consoles For 2010 Central American Games Broadcast

Soundcraft Si3 And Vi1 Digital Consoles

Grammy-winning producer and engineer Javier Hernandez, owner of Javier Studios in San Juan, Puerto Rico, developed and deployed a complete broadcast solution for the Central American Games’ opening and closing ceremonies, with two Soundcraft Si3 digital consoles and a Vi1 digital console. With millions of viewers from the 31 participating countries and beyond watching the games, the Soundcraft equipment ensured every note, lyric, speech and pre-taped video clip was successfully delivered to the television audience.

With Latin American musical guests, diplomatic officials and teams spanning the region from Mexico to Suriname, it was important for the audio to be clearly heard. The Soundcraft consoles allowed musical group sensation NOTA’s performance of the host nation’s national anthem to be enjoyed throughout the arena and by fans worldwide.

“This was a very complicated gig. Snake distances were over the 500 feet, the orchestra required more than 130 inputs and weather issues left us with no time for soundcheck or rehearsals. The Si3’s provided the excellent sound I was expecting from Soundcraft,” said Hernandez. “The console is very easy to manage with its simple-to-set dynamics, EQ’s and signal routing.”

The crew from Javier Studios was so pleased with the Soundcraft signature sound that a Vi1 console was brought in and easily integrated for the live TV broadcast. "We took the Vi1 out of the box, which we had never used before, and had it up and running in minutes," commented Juan Rosado, mixing engineer for Javier Studios.

The 21st Central American Games marked the first use of Multichannel Audio Digital Interface (MADI) carrying audio signals from a distance of more than 500 feet via fiber optics in Puerto Rico. “With the help of the MADI system, interconnecting the Si3 with the house consoles was a simple plug-and-play task,” said Angel Perez, Applications Engineer, Intercontinental, Soundcraft Studer and former Audio TV Engineer for Javier Studios.
