Imagina and Fila7 organised the Opening Ceremony of the 20th European Athletics Championships

An impressive show filled Montjuïc with light and magic

Imagina and Fila7 were behind the creation and organisation of the Opening Ceremony of the European Athletics Championships, which took place on Monday 26th July in María Cristina Avenue in Barcelona and in and around the magic Fountains in Montjuïc.

The ceremony was broadcast live by TV3 and was the most watched programme of the day with a 22.4% share in Catalonia. In the rest of Spain, the ceremony was broadcast on Teledeporte and more than 70 networks worldwide.

The objective of the event was to bring the championships to the people of the city of Barcelona with a show that included dance, acrobatics and music among other activities. The athletes were centre stage throughout and highlighted the values of effort, tenacity, motivation, but above all equality.

The concept and artistic direction came from Hansel Cereza, former member and founder of La Fura de los Baus, as well as aerial choreographer of the Cirque du Soleil for its “Love” show. The soundtrack was produced and performed by Nacho Cano, accompanied by other musicians. The Mediterranean theme was supplied by Catalan rumba band La Troba Kung Fú, who brought the opening ceremony to a close.
