Grandstand Construction for the 2010 European Baseball Championship in Germany
Due to this great demand for seats, the promoter, DBV Baseball Event GmbH, decided to increase seating capacity in the EC stadiums. The capacity of the “Reds Ballpark am Schnarrenberg“ in Stuttgart will be supplemented with 3,000 seats to make a total of 3,560 seats. At the “Heideköpfe Ballpark“ in Heidenheim, the home stadium of the reigning German baseball champions, seating will be provided for up to 2,000 fans; with 1,200 additional seats being made available.
In addition to the construction of the supplementary grandstand facilities with a total of 4,200 seats, NUSSLI has been commissioned by the DBV Baseball Event GmbH, Mainz with the construction of press boxes, gangways, and stairs. The challenge lies in the creation of the desired arena atmosphere in the area around home plate. There are also temporary infrastructures planned in partially sloping areas, which make it necessary to precisely adapt the facilities to the conditions. 140 tons of material of the established NUSSLI Euro System are intended for the construction of the required structures and must be transported to the venues through very narrow access roads. With the support of voluntary local helpers, the entire construction will be completed within five workdays and therefore on schedule for the first game.
The European Championship will officially open on July 23, 2010, when the Croatian team encounters the team from Great Britain in the “Reds Ballpark am Schnarrenberg” in Stuttgart.
