French Horse Racing Migrates to HD with EVS Technology

FRANCE GALOP & LE CHEVAL FRANCAIS WILL INCORPORATE EVS HD WORKFLOW IN THREE NEW MOBILE PRODUCTION UNITS

France Galop and Le Cheval Français, the governing bodies of gallop and harness horse racing in France, renew their commitment to EVS by replacing their production infrastructure with a new HD workflow. The new system is based on XT3 and XS production servers, which will be incorporated in three new mobile production units.

France Galop and Le Cheval Français have decided to invest in three new mobile units for the coverage of live horse racing, which will be broadcast on a series of French television channels including France 3 and Equidia, as well as the production and archiving of video content used by the horse racing commission.

When the decision was made to produce in HD, France Galop and Le Cheval Français required a fast and reliable platform that could guarantee workflow efficiency and instant replays with maximum precision. EVS had previously worked with France Galop when it installed a full tapeless SD solution in its two OB Vans built in 2001, which helped EVS to design a new HD workflow based on the company’s production requirements and ensures minimal training for a smooth transition.

Emmanuel Giacotti, Technical Director at GTHP, the facility company that will be operating the mobile units, said: “EVS has been our partner for years, providing reliable technology that performs under the most demanding conditions. And with the power and flexibility of the new XT3 server, we don’t have to worry about future production requirements for quite a while”.

Each mobile production unit is to operate 300 days per year and will use four XT3-LSM systems to ingest live multiple camera feeds, create clips and produce live slow motion replays. In addition, two XS production servers, under the control of the IPDirector content production management suite, will be used to produce and playout playlists. All three units will also be equipped with EVS’ removable storage solution, XF2, for the archiving of horse racing video content.

The new HD workflow is set to be operational by January 2012.
