The Conference Takes Shape

Huge strides forward in stereoscopic 3D this year

The IBC2010 Conference is rapidly taking shape. Far more than simply a talking shop, it’s at IBC that the future direction of the industry is debated and, to an extent, decided. With huge strides forward in stereoscopic 3D this year, and a continuing ferment of developments in IP-based technologies, the Conference will examine the technologies and workflows that make continuing evolution possible, as well as the changing business models that underpin the industry. Early bird registration, which can save up to €200, is open until 17 August.

Technology Advancements Stream

At the heart of the IBC Conference are the Technical Papers and Posters produced by leading figures from the world’s electronic entertainment industry. Drawing from a global pool of participants, who compete fiercely for their material to be accepted by the Technical Papers Committee, these are presented in the Technology Advancements stream, one of the four streams around which the Conference is structured.

The content is as cutting edge as you would expect, and ranges across the rising importance of social media, advancements in IPTV and VoD, the future of audio and radio, digital restoration, stereoscopic 3D and also features a detailed look at Ultra HDTV. This is where the future of the industry happens first.

Examining Mobile and Telecoms

Several individual currents run through the IBC Conference streams; clusters of sessions that examine a particular subject in depth. One in particular that’s worth highlighting looks at Mobile TV and Telecoms and takes place in three sessions over the Sunday 12 and Monday 13 of the show.

It starts with Mobile TV: The Next Frontier, which takes a snapshot of the latest developments in global mobile and portable media, including an examination of the demands that serving HD content will make on terminals and receivers. Telecoms in media: a natural convergence or an industry defending itself? examines the future of the relationship between telcos and pay-TV providers, while Engagement and monetisation for mobile TV & mobile apps looks at the integration of mobile platforms into production and distribution systems and how to monetise the process. Whichever direction you approach the subject, whether it be from mobile or television, these are sure to be interesting, involving and important sessions.
