World Teleport Association Announces the Top Teleport Operator Rankings for 2010

The Independent Top Twenty

The Independent Top Twenty ranks teleport operators based on revenue from all sources, but focuses on the independent operators at the core of the business, excluding companies whose primary business is ownership and operation of a satellite fleet or terrestrial network. Two new operators were added to the list - MTN and GE Satcom - while Newcom International rejoined after a year’s absence. In order from largest to smallest, the Independent Top Twenty of 2010 are:

The Global Top Twenty ranks companies based on revenues from all customized communications sources and includes operators of teleports, satellite fleets and fiber networks. Two companies make their debut on the Global Top Twenty – Hughes and MTN. In order from largest to smallest, the Global Top Twenty of 2010 are:

The Fast Twenty

The Fast Twenty ranks all teleport-operating companies based on year-over-year revenue growth in their most recent fiscal years. Europe Media Port was the fastest of the fast for the second year in a row with an impressive 127% growth. New to the list are Cobbett Hill Earth Station, AsiaSat, Eutelsat, and MTN. Ranked by revenue growth, the Fast Twenty of 2010 are:

About the Top Operator Rankings

The Top Operator rankings are compiled by surveying teleport operators around the world on their facilities, services and business results. These rankings provide a unique insight into the less glamorous realities of the teleport sector.

"We saw an interesting shift in the Top Operator rankings this year,” said Robert Bell, WTA Executive Director. "In the Global Top Operator list, for example, 45% are independent teleport operators while the other 55% are satellite operators that operate their own teleports. We also saw a couple of those satellite operators penetrate the Fast Twenty list for the first time. That’s consistent with many of the findings WTA has published within the last 12 months. Satellite operators are investing in their ground-based business, and as we saw in the Inside the Top Operators of 2009 published last month, several of the operators expect big increases in teleport and terrestrial transmission revenues but only small increases in revenues from space segment.”
