World-Famous Wiener Konzerthaus Goes Digital With Soundcraft Vi6™ and Vi4™ Consoles

The Wiener Konzerthaus and the Soundcraft Vi6™ and Vi4™ Consoles

VIENNA, Austria – The Wiener Konzerthaus, one of Austria’s most famous and prominent concert halls, recently installed two Soundcraft Vi digital consoles as part of an equipment upgrade. The consoles were sold through Kain Audio Technik, Soundcraft’s Austrian distributor.

The Konzerthaus dates back to the beginning of the 20th Century and is one of the largest and most artistically progressive institutions in international music. During the course of a season, which extends from September to June, approximately 750 wide-ranging events take place and more than 600,000 visitors can listen to around 2,500 different compositions. With this comprehensive and varied selection, the Wiener Konzerthaus—together with the Vienna State Opera House and the Musikverein—is central to Vienna’s reputation as one of the world’s leading music capitals.

When it was obvious that the existing front-of-house mixing console needed to be replaced, Markus Aubrecht and Gerald Barwig took their time making the right decision. They considered all the digital consoles on the market and conducted major testing over two years. The Soundcraft Vi6 easily convinced the technical crew because of its ease of use, combined with perfect sound quality. The Vi6 is used as the FOH console in the Grand Concert Hall, while a Soundcraft Vi4 serves as a monitor console or can be used in one of the many other halls in the building. The Konzerthaus also upgraded to LWL cabling, making it very easy to connect one or both consoles depending on the venue’s needs.

The unique atmosphere of the Wiener Konzerthaus not only attracts artists from the international music scene, but also forms the setting for numerous other social events such as balls, conferences, dinners, company presentations and festivities. The Konzerthaus's experience of hosting a wide variety of events extends back to the Twenties. With its most recent major renovation (1998–2001), the historic building is now well-equipped to meet the challenges of the third millennium.
