Vitec Videocom Wins Significant Order with China’s State Broadcaster

Vitec Videocom - innovative products around the camera

CCTV, the state broadcaster in China, is developing a new channel which will bring news and magazine programming from around the country. To support this extensive new operation it has invested more than $1.2 million in tripods, lighting and bags from Vitec Videocom.

Vitec Videocom brings together some of the most respected, sought-after and innovative brands in the industry including Anton/Bauer, Autoscript, Litepanels, OConnor, Petrol Bags, Sachtler, Vinten and Vinten Radamec. It encourages multi-brand system sales of these market-leading broadcast, film and pro-video products to simplify the way customers do business worldwide.

CCTV will use 180 ENG kits with Sachtler DV10 heads and tripods, ideal for lightweight cameras with payloads of up to 12kg. For EFP the new HD channel will be using larger cameras and prompting systems and has chosen the Sachtler Video 18 (18kg payload) and Video 25 (for the largest camera systems with a payload up to 35kg). The contract is for 130 Video 18 heads and 20 Video 25 heads, again complete with tripods and spreaders.

To protect the tripods and heads, CCTV has also ordered 350 Petrol PC-104 carry bags. For location lighting the contract is completed by 220 Litepanels Micro-Pro LED luminaires. All the equipment will be delivered in early 2012.

“We looked at all the brands on the market and Sachtler came out on top in our tests,” said Mr Hu Ruilin, CCTV’s project manager for the new channel. “The weather conditions vary widely across our huge country from summer to winter, so having the confidence to be able to set up the Sachtler tripods and heads quickly and reliably, whatever the weather, was vital to our final decision.

“The Litepanels LED lighting uses very little power which means we get the most out of batteries on location,” he added. “All the equipment is durable for a long life, but we chose to give it extra protection with Petrol Bags to help when our crews are flying from location to location.”

This order for ENG and EFP support equipment follows a similar sized order from CCTV earlier in 2011. This was for the studios supporting the new channel and included Sachtler and Vinten pedestals and heads and the Sachtler HD Artemis camera stabilisation system.
