TDF Group transcends digital frontiers: the European group is preparing itself for the future with TDF 3.0

Watching what I want to watch on television, WHEN I want to watch it and most of all, WHERE I want to watch it

These are all requirements of modern-day users. They’re no longer just TV viewers, they’re consumers and producers of digital images, texts and sounds. User habits are changing at least as quickly as new technologies for receiving equipment.

The TDF Group is taking users into the future – with TDF 3.0, Europe’s leading provider of broadcast services will be transcending ‘digital frontiers’ to bring it even closer to present-day and future customers.

MEDIA BROADCAST plans to implement the strategy with developments in terrestrial networks, as one example. Models and scenarios are already being developed for terrestrial television, offering viewers linear HD television combined with all types of programme content and hybrid access. Due to market requirements, MEDIA BROADCAST’s business model will evolve from purely a transport model (providing broadcasting services) to an operator model (packaging and marketing).

Television planned by programme managers? News at 8 p.m? Enjoying the thrill of a Scandinavian crime series at 10:45 p.m.? Soon this will all be a thing of the past for today’s generation of fifteen to twenty year olds and is already yesterday’s news for the more young-at-heart over 50s.

Accessing and using content but at the same time producing content with comments, opinions and blogs at anytime, anywhere and on the move using a variety of receivers – this is everyday life for many people and will be the norm for the vast majority of users in the next few years. Communication channels and their uses are growing together, overlapping and, more than anything else, changing at an incredible speed.

The digital technology boom is changing consumer behaviour, and forthcoming developments in equipment will promote rapid and radical change: interactivity complete connectivity, high definition and mobile services are all keywords for us and our customers.

With TDF 3.0, the TDF Group is preparing itself for the challenges that lie ahead. Over the next ten years it will invest around two billion Euros in expanding infrastructure and services, 500 million of which will be invested in the next two years.

As a result, the group aims to improve and extend its broadcast services – its core business. Pay-per-view TV, catch-up TV, video on demand or the transmission of global events in HDTV or 3D are also to be available on terrestrial platforms in future. This way, TDF’s partners in the broadcasting industry will benefit from Europe’s leading TV distribution platform: the soon-to-be fully digital platform currently offers the best coverage and capacity under excellent terms.

The Group is also planning to expand its telecommunications services. The sector is one of the major drivers for growth and in 2010 recorded higher sales than TV. With around 10,000 transmitter sites in Europe, TDF already occupies a strong position in the telecommunications sector.

With its strategy, TDF is aspiring to be the preferred partner of customers working in the media, telecommunications and multimedia. This way, customers will remain or become market leaders and create added value with our services.
