South Africa’s DTF Outfit New OB Van with Grass Valley Live Production Solutions

.

South Africa’s Dimension Television Facilities (DTF), which provides mobile broadcast services to local and international markets in Africa, has selected a range of Grass Valley® live production solutions to equip its new OB van, which is expected to be complete in October 2013. Grass Valley is supplying DTF with a Trinix® NXT digital video routing switcher with multiviewer, an Apex Plus™ digital audio routing switcher, two Kayak™ HD video production switchers, and four HD LDK 8000 Elite Series® cameras.

The new unified Grass Valley solution will give DTF the ability to produce and broadcast high quality coverage from live events, including rugby, football, cricket, golf and motocross. The purchase builds upon the valued and longstanding relationship between DTF and Grass Valley, which began more than a decade ago.

“In a mobile production truck, space is of paramount importance. Grass Valley offers one-stop solutions that are compact and highly efficient,” said Hennie Reynders, Director, DTF. “We have relied upon Grass Valley’s experience and expertise in the broadcast market for more than a decade and we are fully confident that our new OB van will deliver the high-quality content that our viewers expect.”

Trinix NXT with multiviewer saves DTF valuable rack space by eliminating the need for secondary external components and connections while providing a reliable 3G multiviewer solution. It incorporates advanced circuit technology and is field-proven in configurations of up to 2,048 inputs or outputs. The APEX routing switcher easily handles large data rates, supports simultaneous signals, and interconnects multiple frames without the need for expensive or bulky distribution amplifiers. The Kayak HD video production switcher is compact, lightweight and ideal for mobile productions. DTF will deploy the Kayak with a 3 M/E panel plus a 1 M/E panel in a different position in the truck. The LDK 8000 will enable DTF to capture HD images natively and switch instantly between multiple formats and selectable frame-rates of up to 1080p50. These additional cameras bring the company’s total Grass Valley camera fleet to 20.

“South Africa is an important and growing market for Grass Valley and we are committed to providing the region with the most sophisticated, highly-adaptable gear for professional broadcast today — whether it’s in the studio or mobile,” said Said Bacho, Senior Vice President of EMEA, Grass Valley. “By implementing Grass Valley solutions, DTF will have the confidence and peace of mind it needs to deliver optimal coverage of live events to all its viewers in South Africa and across the continent.”
