Sony Helps to Overcome the Complex Challenges of Live Production

The new MVS-3000 Multi-Format Switcher

As demands for live production continue to increase beyond just music and sports to include houses of worship, corporate, education and more, Sony continues to boost its offering with an array of new HD live production product. The latest additions make up a powerful system that combines high-performance and affordability for an array of live production applications. The new products include camera adaptors, camera control units (CCU) and high-function compact switchers which allow customers to choose from a wide range of transmission modalities.

The CA-FB70 Optical Fibre Camera Adaptor and HXCU-FB70 CCU easily integrate with existing cameras and camcorders such as the HXC-D70 and PMW-320, PMW-350, and PMW-500 to realise a new fiber transmission camera system. In addition, the CA-TX70 Digital Triax Camera Adaptor provides a triax transmission solution for these cameras and camcorders together with the HXCU-100 CCU.

Operate with minimal cabling using the new CA-FB70 Optical Fibre Camera Adaptor which can receive input signals and connect to the power line without additional external cables. Connection with the HXCU-FB70 Camera Control Unit by optical fibre cable enables transmission over long distances while maintaining high picture quality. The distance achievable when connecting a single-mode optical fibre cable with an LC connector is a maximum of 10km, while the distance for optical fibre supplying power over an electrical compound cable is up to 250m. A HXCE-FB70 Power Supply Unit will be also available for the combination of these two type cables.

The CA-TX70 Digital Triax Camera Adaptor also enables a single-cable connection without any additional external cables required. Triax cables can be easily used outdoors, and when connected to an HXCU-100 CCU, it enables power supply and digital triax signal transmission over distances of up to 600m in the case of φ8.5mm standard triax cable.

Both the CA-FB70 and CA-TX70 can be attached to the HXC-D70 and PMW-320, PMW-350, and PMW-500 cameras and camcorders to enable them to transmit signals by an optical fibre or a digital triax cable.

The HXCU-FB70 is a dedicated CCU for the CA-FB70. On the front panel are commonly-used switches for picture control and knobs for easy colour matching in multiple camera operations. The rear panel consists of a variety of input and output connectors.

MVS-3000 Multi-Format Switcher
Compact and well-designed, the new multi-format production switcher MVS-3000 delivers the high performance, functionality and stability of the MVS series. It is ideally suited for production studios, stadiums, houses of worship, and OB vehicles requiring multiple inputs in a limited space. The MVS-3000 comes with sophisticated capabilities such as two mix effects (M/Es), four keyers per M/E, each with the MVS high-performance chromakey, 2.5D resizers, colour correction, and more. The self-contained 4RU processor with dual multi-viewer output that splits into 4 frames or 10 frames offers simple configuration, and is a logical choice for small production facilities that have limited installation space but refuse to compromise on quality.

This switcher inherits an array of characteristics and features from the well-established MVS switcher series, amassed from a decade of experience. The MVS-3000 utilises the latest technologies such as a newly developed image processor, internal 2.5D digital multi-effects (resizer engine), clip transition effects, side flags and internal format convertor. It can cater for production needs starting at 32 inputs / 16 outputs 2ME.

The MVS-3000 is equipped with 8 keyers allowing sophisticated layering from each M/E. Separate from the main fader, each keyer has its own auto-transition controls, which allow users to insert or remove keys on an individual basis with independent wipes, and dissolves. For further flexibility, each keyer in every M/E also offers chroma keying and colour vector keying, eliminating restrictions of selectable key types. These fully featured M/Es allow total interoperability of effects on all M/Es. The Resizer function in the MVS-3000, allows superb simple 2.5D DME effects to be supported through 4 out of 8 keyers which can be activated by key frames. A variety of effects - such as Mosaic and Defocus - can be applied to resized images. All these effects can be created without the use of an external DME, bringing great advantages for both simple operation and minimised system cost.

The MVS-3000 provides a high-capacity "frame memory system" that enables video frames to be captured and stored as still images. The system also allows a sequence of frames to be recorded as a video clip (called a "frame memory clip").

The all-new ICP-3000 is an easy-to-use control panel that can be operated in combination with a standard VGA monitor and a mouse as menu panel, which greatly expands operational flexibility. Button indications have also been greatly enhanced over previous generation switchers. Cross-point OLED source-name displays, FlexiPad, and Shot Box™ buttons all incorporate a backlit indicator to which preset pattern icons or text can be imported and displayed. Together with colour cross-point button, these indicators help to keep the operator informed at all times of cross-point, button assignments and source type group.
