Snell Vega™ Routing Platform Earns Top Accolades at IBC 2011

Vega Wins TV Technology Europe STAR Award, Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award, and TVBEurope's Best of IBC Editor's Award

Snell today announced that its Vega™ routing platform earned a TV Technology Europe STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award, a Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award, and TVBEurope's Best of IBC Editor's Award (Production + Infrastructure) at IBC2011. Allowing users to configure any signal port independently for fiber or coax (copper) connectivity, and to configure any signal port as either an input or output, Vega provides the industry's most flexible asymmetric routing solution within a space-saving 2-RU 96-port router.

The TV Technology Europe STAR Award is designed to celebrate and showcase the preeminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry; the Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award is given in recognition of the innovative technology developed and shown at an IBC stand; and the TVBEurope's Best of IBC Editors' Awards highlight the smartest, most game-changing new products to be launched into the EMEA market at the IBC show.

The fully asymmetric I/O port designation of the Vega platform enables the user to configure the router with just one input and 95 outputs, 95 inputs and one output, or any combination in between. The use of small fiber plug-in modules and/or miniature coaxial connector types also means that this innovative design yields 50 percent more signal ports than a conventional router of the same rack height.

"Vega changes the rules of the game, giving broadcast and media companies the unprecedented ability to configure just the number and type of signal ports they need," said Kim Francis, product manager at Snell. "In yielding a new level of configuration flexibility, this unique model enables users to employ ports most cost-effectively according to the demands of the application. We're pleased that this first-of-a-kind versatility has been recognized and honored so roundly by the broadcast trade press."
