Pink Media Group Constructs Large, On-Set, Videowall using Draco Tera Matrix Switch

New system designed by integrator Kompani digiTV saves cost and increases flexibility in 192-image multiview videowall

The Pink Media Group (PMG), Belgrade, Serbia, is the largest private broadcast and entertainment group in Southeast Europe. A recently-completed studio for its 24/7 news programme incorporates a massive on-set multiview videowall, formed from 34, 46” monitors and capable of displaying up to 192 separate images.

A single multiviewer with a large number of outputs was ruled out on cost grounds. Instead, Kompani digiTV proposed a solution using a 16-output multiviewer system feeding the 34 screens on the videowall via an IHSE Draco tera compact KVM switch.

“There is no better multi-display source than a broadcast multiviewer system, so we have combined one with a Draco tera KVM switch to achieve the perfect solution. The enormous flexibility of the KVM switch allows any input to be connected to any display. Each multiviewer output can be connected to one or more monitors, even to every screen at once if desired,” explains Miroslav Jankovic, managing director of Kompani digiTV. “Control of the images on the monitors is very simply achieved by means of the switch’s internal GUI, allowing operators at Pink to instantly change the layout so that different feeds appear in-shot behind the newsreader,” says Sladjan Pesic, Project manager at PINK.

“The solution achieves the best of both worlds: full flexibility to show multiviewer images in full HD quality and an economic solution that can be further expanded,” explains Sladjan Pesic, Project manager at PINK. “An 80-port KVM switch was installed which also transmits multiviewer content to 10 x 55” and 16 x 46” videowalls in the News Control and MCR rooms. Remaining ports will, in future, supply multiviewer images to other, distant, locations in the building: in offices, recreation and reception areas.”

The news studio videowall is highly effective, giving the channel an extremely professional and modern look and feel. “It is exactly the image we wanted to create,” says Pavle Raskovic, head of production at Pink. “Showing that Pink is a serious player in the news production broadcast industry. The solution that has been created is highly flexible, cost-effective and of the highest image quality. It provides us with an extremely high level of control and display options that fit into the studio environment cohesively.”
