New Ground Entertainment Gears Up With JBL Studio Monitors

Founder Ryck Carter in New Ground Entertainment’s JBL-equipped production room

Record label New Ground Entertainment purchased eight JBL LSR2325P 5-inch powered studio monitors, four JBL LSR2310SP powered studio subwoofers and MSC1 Monitor System Controllers for its headquarters in Atlanta. The systems were installed in four rooms at New Ground Entertainment—two writers’ rooms and two production rooms, one of which doubles as a mix room.

New Ground Entertainment was founded by 25-year industry veteran Ryck “Bigboy” Carter, a premier Atlanta based bassist that has worked with such industry greats as: Quincy Jones and the Montreux jazz festival, Babyface, Lou Rawls, Andre Fisher, Jermaine Dupri and So So Def, Gospel Music Grammy Recording Artist Shirley Caesar, Angella Christie, T.D Jakes, Screenwriter/Director Tyler Perry and many more. Additionally, you can see Carter in the movie “The Preachers Wife” with Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington. Carter and partners started New Ground producing tracks for various Artists and signing record producers and songwriters.

While the LSR2325P monitors caught Carter’s eyes and ears, the LSR2310SP subwoofer’s capabilities made the addition of subs for the four systems an easy decision. “My initial intent was to just by the LSR2325P monitors, but then I listened to the sub and there was no way I was going to buy the tops without the sub,” Carter said. “This sub is half the cost of the subs we had before and it seems so much punchier. So I bought an entire system.”

According to Carter, the accompanying MSC1 Monitor System Controller brings extra performance the package.  “The MSC1 controller just makes the whole system perfect,” he said. Using the MSC1’s RMC room mode calibration system “The mids got nice and it became very flat in the room, which is unusual because usually you have to tune according to the speakers. In other words, you have to put the room together to fit the speakers, but in this case it’s the other way around. The speakers fit any room—that’s very unique.”
