Media Links and VIDI Launch Remote Production Solutions & Services

.

Media Links, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Global Links, along with VIDI, German-based systems integrator, announces the launch of the Remote Production Solutions & Services platform at IBC 2013.

This new platform drastically reduces the cost to produce large-scale sporting and live events. Rather than fully equipping an OB Van with all the necessary control equipment in each major event location, the Remote Production process changes the way large events are managed, produced and controlled. With the use of a long-distance telecom infrastructure, multiple camera signals from multiple venues, audio signals, video return signals, and bi-directional intercom can be transported to a central control center or production suite. All content is passed over standard fiber circuits between each location and offers full redundancy and hitless performance.

Other than obvious cost savings, a key advantage of this workflow is that control becomes centralized, eliminating the requirements to install costly control parameters at each venue.

This concept also opens the doors for small-scale or temporary event producers to enter the live events market in a cost-effective way.

At the heart of the new Remote Production platform lies the Media Links MD8000 media transport solution. The MD8000 system is scalable and modular, which means the configuration of the system can be matched to the demands of a specific event. Robust redundancy with a hitless operation supports its strength as a platform that guarantees quality of service. The MD8000 offers extremely low latency, and operators at a central location have the ability to undertake all normal camera control operations without any lag.

The Media Links and VIDI Remote Production Platform was recently used to revolutionize the production of a live sports event in Wolfsburg, Germany. 16 camera feeds from the Budesliga soccer match in the Wolfsburg VW arena were fed into a MD8000 system and then relayed to a central production suite in Cologne, 400 kilometers away. All cameras including slo-mo cameras were controlled in Cologne, which reduced the need for much on-site technical support or equipment, thereby reducing costs significantly. The production team was able to leverage all the available bandwidth on the existing fiber infrastructure and thus had the ability to provide a broader range of services to their customers.

Media Links and VIDI demonstrated the revolutionary turnkey solution at IBC 2013  and showcased a 7RU MD8000 media transport solution configured to support up to 36 camera feeds, 32 channels of audio, bi-directional intercom, and control using the Media Links Network Management System.
