HBO selects Miranda’s multi-viewers for new HD Studio

Miranda Kaleido-X multi-viewer system at HBO HD Studio NY

Montreal – June 29, 2010 – Miranda Technologies today announced that Home Box Office (HBO), the award-winning premium pay television service, has installed a Kaleido-X multi-viewer monitoring system in its new HBO HD Studio, in New York, USA. The new studio is a one-stop shop for shooting, editing, graphics, color correction, dubbing, and cross-converting.

Two Kaleido-X multi-viewers are used to feed 12 monitors across the facility, with large panel displays in the production, video/lighting, tape and audio rooms. Multi-viewer outputs can also be routed to other areas within the studio, including the stage floor and edit rooms. The new multi-viewer system interfaces to HBO’s main Jupiter router to help simplify day to day router crosspoint changes. Each multi-viewer video window has multiple source and destination UMD labels that display the source label at any given destination, as well as destinations for any given source. This helps operators easily locate available facility devices, and also helps avoid routing signals to and from devices that are already in use.   HBO’s multi-viewer system uses many of Kaleido-X’s alarm capabilities, including video loss, audio peaking, and video format change. The multi-viewer automatically displays video in the correct format, regardless of the type of feed going into the production switcher. Advanced multi-viewer layout configuration software, called XEdit, simplifies the creation of layouts for the different shows produced on-site. The system gives HBO the ability to customize its monitoring for every show independently, based on how many tape machines, cameras and sources are being used for a particular program. It also offers rapid drag and drop preparation, with automatic resize and alignment tools for easy optimization of the monitor wall space. Kaleido-X multi-viewers offer the highest picture quality, along with unmatched flexibility in display configuration, and exceptional resilience. Two frames are available with up to 96 inputs and 8 multi-viewer outputs (7RU), or with up to 32 inputs and 4 multi-viewer outputs (4RU), making it ideal for applications demanding high picture counts per display.  Kaleido-X's advanced Metadata extraction, signal probing, and alarming capabilities also make it highly suitable for master control and head-end environments. It offers triple rate 3Gbps/HD/SD performance, with Stereoscopic 3D support. The multi-viewer can be tightly integrated with routers to offer very large and versatile monitoring systems.
