Harris Announces Innovations in Broadcast Signal Analysis and Video/Audio Monitoring

CMN-41 Compact Monitor Series - VMM-4SNY - SD-STAR™

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces the latest enhancements to its Videotek® test and measurement portfolio, including innovations in broadcast signal analysis and compact video/audio monitoring.

Delivering Cost- and Space-Savings for Broadcasters

"Operators require test and measurement devices that are both cost-effective and compact, yet deliver all of the functionality required in today's professional broadcast environments," said Dave Guerrero, vice president and general manager of Harris Videotek test and measurement solutions, Harris Broadcast Communications. "Ideal for applications in the studio or in the field, Videotek signal analysis and audio/video monitoring tools are designed with the operator in mind — packing superior performance and features into easy-to-use, space-saving packages."

Harris introduces a new version of the CMN-41 Compact Monitor Series, the CMN-41L, for testing signal integrity across all DTV broadcast signal formats up to 3 Gb/s. The CMN-41L does not include a local control panel. Control is provided from an internal Web page or an optional remote control panel, making it very useful for monitoring remote or unattended locations. The CMN-41L is available in SD only, HD/SD and 3 Gb/s/HD/SD versions, and is upgradeable via a simple software update.

Providing a cost-effective alternative to test equipment housed in separate rackmount units, the new VMM-4SNY module is the first integrated, professional test and measurement device for Sony® LCD monitors. A new concept in monitoring for video/audio sources, the VMM-4SNY fits into several Sony monitors: LMD-2450W, LMD-2050W, LMD-4250W, LMD-2451W, BVM-L170, PVM-L2300 and BVM-L230. The module comes standard with two HD-SDI/SD-SDI input connections with embedded audio support and an AES input connection. 3 Gb/s-SDI capability is available as an option.

Also new is the SD-STAR™ — a handheld, battery-powered, personal monitor and test generator for SD-SDI and analog composite video signals. Part of the award-winning Videotek STAR handheld test instruments family, the unit delivers a wide array of functions including a video test signal generator, color monitor, waveform monitor, vectorscope, oscilloscope and audio analyzer/monitor. The SD-STAR includes two video inputs — one for monitoring composite analog NTSC and PAL video signals and one for monitoring SD-SDI signals formatted in SMPTE 259M-C with embedded audio. It is ideal for monitoring field-production camera setup, equipment installations or troubleshooting signal-path issues related to analog and standard-definition digital formats.
