Grass Valley EDIUS 6: Faster Workflow and Simultaneous Video Capture/Editing of Live Video

Simultaneous editing of live feeds makes quick turnaround of breaking news easy

Grass Valley™ announced the latest update to the popular nonlinear video editing software EDIUS® 6.  The update (version 6.03), distributed free of charge to registered version 6.xx users, brings new video file formats and hardware-assisted H.264 encoding, as well as support for Grass Valley’s EDIUS NX, SP and HD legacy hardware.

This latest update supports both 50p & 60p file import (supported by JVC and Sony camcorders), allowing for a smoother workflow within EDIUS 6.

For users of Intel’s Second Generation Core Processor, EDIUS has extended support for Quick Sync Video Hardware H.264 video encoding of MP4 files to complement the AVCHD acceleration introduced in EDIUS 6 version 6.02.  Users will be able to enjoy faster than real-time encoding of videos for iPhone, Play Station Portable, as well as H.264/AVC videos up to 1920x1080p50/60.

EDIUS 6.03 now also supports the legacy EDIUS NX, SP and HD editing platforms, in addition to the current STORM range of editing hardware.

EDIUS Simul Capture Option

Also announced was the Simul Capture Option for the company's EDIUS 6® nonlinear editing system. The Simul Capture Option allows users to ingest live video on one EDIUS client while they simultaneously begin to edit it on a different EDIUS client – perfect for live productions.

Simultaneous editing of live feeds makes quick turnaround of breaking news easy, as well as the speedy creation of playlists on the fly.  EDIUS clients connected via K2 SAN or EDIUS Workgroup Storage can individually access and edit the video, allowing for multiple edits from the same source.

Videos can be ingested as MXF format (MPEG-2, AVC-Intra, DVCPRO, HQ codec) as well as AVI format (Grass Valley’s HQ / HQX CODEC and Uncompressed).  Editing markers can be placed within the captured live content, allowing for a smoother editing workflow.

EDIUS 6 nonlinear editing software is designed to meet the requirements of both a broadcast production environment and the independent editor requiring the highest quality, ease of use, and fastest finishing possible.

The EDIUS NX Series of PCI-based hardware can handle any mix of HD and SD video content; unlimited video, audio, title, and graphics layers; and any combination of real-time effects. It offers S-Video and FireWire (IEEE1394) I/O, bi-directional analog/DV conversion using our ADVC® technology from within any Windows-based nonlinear editing software, and outputs HD video directly from the timeline.

The SP Series of PCI-based hardware offers the same functionality as the NX Series, but with component I/O. And SDI option is also available.

EDIUS HD is first generation of PCI-X based HD-SDI I/O breakout box specially designed for EDIUS. It has comprehensive broadcast grade interface, such as SDI, AES/EBU, bi-directional RS422 for VTR emulation, as well as balanced analog audio.

The latest update for EDIUS 6 version 6.03 will be available for download free of charge from the Grass Valley driver download page in July 2011.

The EDIUS Simul Capture Option will be available for the suggested retail price of $2,000 and will be available in July 2011.
