Streambox® Avenir™ and Streambox® Live™

"As the European economy continues to struggle, broadcasters are challenged to expand the scope of their newsgathering and deliver live, breaking news as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible," said Bob Hildeman, CEO of Streambox. "IBC2010 is a tremendous opportunity for us to demonstrate how our world-class solutions can help bring immediate efficiencies, flexibility, and cost savings to newsgathering processes."

Streambox® Avenir™ — Mobile Video Broadcasting Solution

Avenir™, the newest member of Streambox's industry-leading family of mobile video transport solutions, will make its European debut at IBC2010. Designed for field newsgathering, sports broadcasting, and other mobile live and file-based video applications, Avenir is Streambox's first hardware-based encoder to offer up to eight 3G/4G bonded wireless network aircards for high-quality HD or SD in a fully portable form factor, enabling live or file-based video acquisition over a variety of low-data-rate networks. The Streambox Avenir is also the first battery operated mobile encoder designed for a reporter to file HD/SD live and file-based video content over a variety of IP networks, which allows broadcasters to replace traditional SNG/DNG systems. Reporters can also access the user interface through wireless devices like the Apple iPod® touch or iPad™. The Avenir harnesses Streambox's award-winning ACT-L3™ codec to capture and encode high-quality HD content in 1080i or 720p format, at data rates of up to 20 Mbps, and SD content in NTSC or PAL from 64 Kbps to 8 Mbps.

Streambox® Live™ — Many-to-Many Broadband Video Contribution

At IBC2010, Streambox® will demonstrate Streambox Live™, an innovative broadband video contribution service. It enables broadcasters to enhance breaking news stories with ad hoc broadcasting content supplied by a variety of contributors including video journalists, stringers, and citizen reporters. At the front end, the cornerstone of this scalable software-based solution is the Streambox Live encoder, which is made available at no cost to contributors affiliated with broadcast groups and local television stations.

At the back end, broadcasters subscribing to the Streambox Live service are able to manage, track, and view unlimited amounts of video uploads from contributors. The broadcaster can also manage digital rights for video contributions and search for relevant video clips using metadata information. The broadcaster pays for decoded video only.

Complete End-to-End Solution for HD/SD File-Based Acquisition

With the addition of HD support to the Streambox® Store and Forward Server and Media Station, broadcasters now have a complete solution for end-to-end acquisition of both HD and SD file-based video. The Streambox Store and Forward Client, Store and Forward Server, and Media Station work together to provide greater control and management of field-generated video as it is edited and uploaded to the broadcast studio for multiformat playout. Control room operators are better able to manage hundreds of video files as these are uploaded to the Store and Forward Server by field reporters or citizen reporters for on-demand or scheduled playout via an easy-to-use Web interface. Reporters can save raw ACT-L3™ files directly from the Streambox encoder software or export a file from the NLE using the Streambox ACT-L3 codec for QuickTime®. Using the Store and Forward Client's Web interface, they can then upload the video file to the Store and Forward Server for transcoding to multiple formats. The file can then be ingested directly to a playout system or played out directly from the Streambox Media Station.

Streambox® SBT3-9300™ HD/SD Video Transport System

Streambox® is demonstrating the 1RU Streambox SBT3-9300™ HD/SD video transport system at IBC2010. The SBT3-9300 system is used for HD/SD newsgathering, broadcasting, and video post-production. The SBT3-9300 can be operated in HD or SD mode, enabling the user to capture, transmit, and play live and file-based video. The system provides stunning 1080i/720p/1080psf HD video at data rates from 512 Kbps to 30 Mbps and SD video from 64 Kbps to 15 Mbps.

The SBT3-9300 system has been developed to meet the performance and quality requirements of customers in a variety of industry sectors. Movie and post-production companies, for example, can use the SBT3-9300 to transmit high-quality live HD and SD video over low-data-rate IP networks as a way to accelerate and enhance editing processes such as color correction. With the Streambox solution, video editors are able to transmit the edited video file over IP in real time for immediate review and approval from clients who may be located in different time zones and perhaps even on different continents. Using the SBT3-9300 makes this part of the post-production process much more efficient and cost-effective.
