ETASound debuts AXYS® on Beth Nielsen Chapman gig

Eddie Thomas from ETASound

ETASound, the North Wales and London-based sound design, installation and rental company has given its AXYS® Scope system an impressive debut. The first outing for the new rig was at a Beth Nielsen Chapman concert at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, held in the 1,500-seat main auditorium.

“We were all very impressed,” said ETASound owner Eddie Thomas. “As an artist she is renowned for her pure, powerful songwriting and clear voice – and the boxes did a great job of bringing out her unique vocal sounds to the packed venue.”

Thomas ordered a rig comprised of AXYS® Scope T2115 enclosures – a self powered 3-way system with built-in DSP – after hearing them in the Duran Audio demo room at PLASA 2009. It’s fair to say he liked what he heard.

“I was impressed by what I heard from such a small and compact package,” Thomas explained. “The boxes are very musical, clean and accurate, whilst at the same time they deliver great low-end performance and the dynamic range is just fantastic too.”

The Scope T2115 is loaded with a 15-inch low frequency driver, combined with a 2-inch and 1-inch compression driver. Each driver is powered by a separate 350W amplifier, while the active crossover functions are performed by the on-board DSP.

In addition to the crossover functions, the electronics provide an 8-band parametric EQ, volume control, delay and comprehensive monitoring of system status. All of these functions can be accessed using proprietary AXYS® WinControl software, which connects to the units via an RS-485 network.

“It’s great that ETASound has got on board with the product, within the company there is a wealth of experience, technical know-how and a real enthusiasm and passion for audio,” commented Andrew Taylor, who heads up tour sound sales for Duran Audio UK. “Their portfolio of clients and installations, which includes the O2 London, is really impressive and we are looking forward to developing a long-lasting relationship with them.

“We really admire the ethos of the company and their commitment to choosing the right loudspeaker for a job, rather than being tied to one manufacturer,” Taylor added.
