Elettronica Industriale Selects T-VIPS JPEG2000 Gateway for its Advanced Next Generation Contribution Network

EI, a Mediaset company, deploys T-VIPS TVG450

T-VIPS, a global leader in professional video contribution and distribution solutions, announced that its TVG450 JPEG2000 Video Gateways have been selected by Elettronica Industriale (EI), a Mediaset company, for its next generation contribution network.

The new network will support the rollout of HD, meeting EI’s requirement for high video quality and low delay. This is particularly important given the large amounts of video transported between the company’s main facilities in Rome and Milan. The new network will be used for key contributions including high profile Italian soccer coverage. The system is delivered in cooperation with T-VIPS’ Italian business partner, Communication Video Engineering S.r.l. (CVE).

“We have evaluated several compression technologies for our next generation contribution network supporting SD and HD transport. We wanted to migrate to IP connections, but only if we could do it without loss of quality. The T-VIPS JPEG2000-based solutions emerged as the clear winner, enabling us to migrate to IP with all the power, flexibility and functionality we need,” says Piercarlo Invernizzi, CTO, Elettronica Industriale.

The T-VIPS TVG450 is the industry’s first JPEG2000 video gateway, based on the latest advances in JPEG2000 compression and IP networking and supporting 3D, 3G HD (1080p) HD, and SD contribution over IP transport networks. A key requirement for the solution was the ability to deliver lossless JPEG2000 compression. The TVG450 delivers high density, outstanding video performance, minimizes power consumption and comes in compact half width 1 RU and full 1 RU dual power platforms. This JPEG2000 solution complements the existing T-VIPS Video Gateway family and is integrated with T-VIPS Connect, the T-VIPS control and monitoring solution.

“We are proud to be selected by Elettronica Industriale to provide this technology for EI’s next generation contribution network, which builds upon our reputation as the pioneer and leading provider of JPEG2000 in the broadcast industry,” says Janne T. Morstøl, COO, T-VIPS.

“Our TVG450 and our JPEG2000 compression is a clear match for the Elettronica Industriale ’no compromise’ on quality requirement combined with its ’plan for the future’ strategy. The flexibility of the TVG450 enables EI to fulfil its current needs while taking account of its future video transport requirements. By deploying our JPEG2000 solution, it has a network that provides them with high video quality today and that can be upgraded to support 3D and 3G HD in the future,” concludes Morstøl.

TVG450 Video Gateway

The TVG450 is the first high-density JPEG2000-based solution, enabling broadcasters and network operators to transport 4 SD, 2HD or one 3G HD stream. The advantages of deploying the TVG450 include high quality video with 4:2:2 support and 10 bit resolution, ultra low latency, lossless and low loss compression and no quality-loss in workflows requiring multi-generation compression. The TVG450 JPEG2000 gateway also supports the synchronous backhaul stereoscopic 3D video. Additionally, the CAPEX and OPEX costs of T-VIPS’ JPEG2000-based solutions are considerably lower than competing technologies, combining this with the advantages of an IP enabled infrastructure, compatibility with next generation 1080p infrastructures and ease of operation, the T-VIPS TVG450 JPEG2000 offering is highly compelling.

Key Features include

• Multi-channel JPEG2000 encoding or decoding
• High quality, 10-bit Video
• Robust transmission over IP networks
• Very low latency
• MXF encapsulation
• Ancillary data support
• Compact, flexible cost-effective solutions
