Danish Facility House Switches to Grass Valley Production with Kayak Video Switcher

Kayak Video Production Switcher

Looking to support its growing client base with the latest digital video production equipment, Studios A/S, a leading independent facility house in Copenhagen, has upgraded the control rooms of two of its main production studios with two new Grass Valley™ Kayak™ video production switchers – one HD and one SD .

Studio A/S now operarates two Kayak Switchers

The first installation (Kayak SD) was completed in the fall of 2009 to meet a tight deadline for a new game show that is now on the air. Once production of the show was successfully completed, the company’s management decided to order a second Kayak switcher (an HD version) to support the upgrade of its largest studio to full digital operations.

“The Kayak is very competitively priced, is compact in size, and it comes standard with all the features we use most,” said Peter Seehausen COO of Studios A/S. “Also, we know that our investment is future-proofed. Once we decide to move the first control room to high-definition production, the switcher can be easily upgraded.”

All types of television programs and commercial are produced

Studios A/S is a long-time Grass Valley customer, having purchased several DD35, DD20, and DD10 switchers in the mid-1990s as well as a number of Turbo™ iDDR units for clip management and playback. For companies like Studios A/S, which rents its studio facilities for local game shows and all types of television programs and commercial productions, the Kayak switcher offers sophisticated digital video switching functionality in a highly affordable package.

Ideally suited to live production, the Grass Valley Kayak production switcher product line includes a powerful M/E architecture with four keyers per bank and eight channels of built-in digital effects. It also provides plenty of power for compositing keys such as logos and graphics. In addition, each keyer in the M/E can optionally perform chroma keys using the Grass Valley Chromatte advanced chroma keyer. Clips are identified by user-specified names for easy recall and can be played back at standard or variable speeds, either forward or backwards.
