CPL Invests in More Compact PPUs

Following the trend for smaller, lighter and ever more portable equipment that is highly adaptable and suited to a wide range of shows and events, several improvements have been made by CPL with this latest generation of ‘Plug-and-Play’ mini-PPUs.

The unit is based around the Panasonic AV-HF410 mixer which is integrated with two 24 inch monitors and now includes the facility for a live view on its preview display.

CPL has listened to feedback from its engineers, video directors, technicians  and clients and made a series of modifications and refinements to this latest generation explains Lee Gruszecky, who built the PPU which was designed together with CPL’s Matthew Boyce.

The latest RTS digital talkback system is new, with the advantage that the director can speak individually to any person on the talkback ring or to everyone at once, and also to any presenters included the IEM loop. This brings lots of additional flexibility to the system.

The comms also feature an easily readable colour coded display that is fast and simple to label.

A Blackmagic Micro Videohub is central to the system design, a feature-packed digital router with inbuilt control panel allowing users to change routing at the push of a button. Smart Videohub includes a 16 x 16 SDI matrix switcher, 3 Gb/s SDI auto SD/HD/3 Gb/s SDI, re-clocking, Ethernet, USB and serial router interfaces.

It is incredibly simple to use and even has an iPad App allowing remote touch screens XY routing, which is great for walking around the venue and checking monitor outputs in situ.

The PPU can take inputs from up to four HXC 100 cameras and is expandable to up to 16 camera channels.

CPL has collaborated with leading European flightcase manufacturer,  5 Star Cases on a tailor-made design to accommodate all the PPU components in a single streamlined road trunk, which is waist high, an easy lift and perfect for rapid deployment.
