BVE2011: Manufacturer-Independent VSM Intercom Control Solution

L-S-B Displays Latest VSM Software and Hardware Innovations at the Broadcast Video Expo in London

L-S-B Broadcast Technologies GmbH will be displaying their innovative VSM software and hardware control solutions at booth C2 at the Broadcast Video Expo (BVE) at London Earls Court. The BVE 2011 puts its focus on a VSM control for all established intercom systems on the market with combined audio routing. The Virtual Studio Manager (VSM) is the leading control system for mobile and stationary broadcast and production applications. The VSM brings the complete production environment in a studio, an MCR or an outside broadcast van together under one umbrella, independent of the manufacturer. On the basis of an IP network structure, the control system manufactured by L-S-B allows all production and broadcast-related devices to be controlled and monitored using a freely configurable user interface.

One of the most important features of the Virtual Studio Manager is its non-proprietary approach. With this latest intercom control solution, the overall control system once again demonstrates this advantage. The intercom systems of the majority of established manufacturers can communicate with the VSM and, therefore, can be controlled via the VSM panel application vsmPanel. The new software module Mx33 enables the tie-lines to be assigned dynamically in such a way as to allow codecs, for example, to be connected dynamically to defined switches on an intercom system. A further software module Mx34 permits functions such as talk and listen to be assigned to the buttons on the intercom system.

Further VSM Highlights at Booth C2: UMD goes HD

The Under Monitor Displays (UMDs), which have been developed and constructed specifically for use with the VSM, display information such as labels and tally quickly, clearly and precisely. The content shown by the UMDs can be configured with the vsmStudio software. In addition to the 19 inch UMD-SD and the ½19 inch UMD-SD, L-S-B expands its portfolio with the UMD-HD addition and will present this new product innovation at the IBC 2010. The UMD-HD’s design, dimensions and weight are identical in construction to the 19-inch UMD-SD. The new HD version has a resolution of 160x16 pixels and therefore provides many more possibilities. It can also display Arabic and Asian characters as well as time code information and gain parameters. Furthermore the two Tally colours red, green and a mixture of the colours are available for text information. This enables Tally to be displayed not only on the Tally bar at the top of the UMD but also to be reflected in the colour of the displayed text.
