ABS-CBN Adopts EVS Insio as a New Standard for Multi-Camera Capture Workflows

In addition to 17 new Insio systems, ABS-CBN simultaneously expanded its live sports coverage portfolio by doubling the EVS LMSs

ABS–CBN, Asia's first commercial television broadcaster and top-rated station in the Philippines, has expanded its production capabilities with the addition of 17 EVS Insio systems to control a growing number of EVS server farms, which includes 14 new SD and HD EVS XT2+.

In order to meet challenges posed by recent increase of new shows usually produced off-site, ABS-CBN has developed a new OB in a Box concept, solidifying a complete EVS environment with a fully-integrated solution.

Using this new concept, ABS-CBN pairs an EVS XT2+ video server with an Insio control server in a flight-case for streamlined production, transportation and workflow. Captured media is stored on removable EVS XF2 drives and delivered to an Avid post -production environment, with EVS offering the option of seamless multi-camera editing.

Chief Technology Officer and Head of ABS-CBN Technical Operations Division, Raul Bulaong says “The addition of Insio systems to ABS-CBN’s existing suite of EVS servers enables us to rationalize our production workflows, retain complete control of the environment’s media and metadata, and simplify the overall process for users.”

In addition to 17 new Insio systems, ABS-CBN simultaneously expanded its live sports coverage portfolio by doubling the number of EVS LSM controllers, the latest of which was used for a recent friendly football match between the Philippines national team, the Azkals, and the Mongolian Blue Wolves.

“Due to football’s increasing popularity within the Philippines, it’s vital for us to be able to repurpose our existing equipment to cover such events” says Edwin Mendoza, Head of Technical Production Operations. “Although our systems are generally used for drama, live and reality TV productions, the addition of the LSM controller means we can instantly repurpose some of our numerous XT2+ servers for sports coverage with the best slow motion replay capabilities available on the market today.”

The sales were made through WAM Pacific, EVS’ trusted distributor in the Philippines.

EVS Insio is engineered for pre-recorded program productions. Combined with any EVS production server, Insio offers producers the perfect toolbox for controlling each production phase of pre-recorded TV programs; including the control of multiple recording feeds, instant review, clip management, metadata creation, clip transfer and feed streaming to post-production. Insio’s touchscreen interface makes clip management very easy and offers numerous user-friendly workflow possibilities. The addition of Insio ProNotes allows the user to create notes and logs of actions onstage while recording is in progress. This can be done onstage and in the control room via a normal laptop or Tablet PC. Notes are linked to corresponding scenes or takes and can be instantly transferred to the editor along with media or exported as a separate item.

EVS’ Business Unit Manager of Media Management, Michel De Wolf says “Insio is an easy-to-use, easy-to-learn tool specifically designed for producers working in a studio environment. Insio allows producers to control an unlimited number of cameras during recording, giving them direct control over the entire process with an exceptional level of integration with post-production.”
