Piksel Partners with American Eagle Foundation to Live Stream Bald Eagle Nest Cam

Piksel technology will be used to live stream nest cam footage of Washington D.C.’s Bald Eagles, “Mr. President” & “The First Lady” - Viewers can see the hatching of the eggs in real time

Piksel, a global leader in building successful online video businesses, today announces its partnership with the American Eagle Foundation (AEF). Piksel will be providing its video live streaming services to the not-for-profit organization to transmit the unique behavior of a breeding pair of Bald Eagles from their nest in the United States National Arboretum in Washington, D.C.

The American Eagle Foundation (AEF) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to care for and protect the USA’ s living symbol of freedom, the Bald Eagle, and other birds of prey through the four pillars of Education, Re-population, Conservation and Rehabilitation. It was one of the first organizations to use cams over a Bald Eagle nest more than a decade ago – albeit the technology was nothing like it is today. With the Bald Eagle being such an important icon in American life, symbolizing the pride of the nation, giving the public an up-close, real-time view of its behavior and activity is key for its future care and protection.

Research by Akamai shows that viewers tend to abandon a video if it takes longer than two seconds to play.

Coupled with the sheer choice of content that is available to turn to, having a video solution that is reliable and streams content without pause, glitches, and buffering delays is incredibly important. Piksel’s vast experience in live streaming video, including its proactive support and monitoring capabilities, ensure uninterrupted, live broadcasts of these birds for American Eagle Foundation supporters in HD quality. Piksel’s platform is fully resilient with the ability to handle 250,000 hits per minute.

Al Cecere, President, AEF said: “We selected Piksel to live stream this very special bald eagles nest based on the reliability and quality of its broadcast-grade streaming service, as well as its reputation for excellent, 24-hour support – not only for us, but for our viewers. The nest in D.C. is a crucial part of our awareness campaign to further our conservation message, so being able to share this view of nesting behavior with the public is really important to us.”

Fabrice Hamaide, President, Piksel said: “Our strong live streaming capabilities allow customers like the AEF to share their message live and in real-time, reliably and consistently. This will be one of the 40,000 live stream events that we manage in our Live Streaming and Monitoring Center each and every year, and we’re incredibly excited to be working on a conservation project like this.”

The stream was launched on 8 February 2016 and will continue after the bald eaglets have hatched. To watch the live stream, please visit WWW.EAGLES.ORG
