Harris Corporation Takes Gold Sponsorship of New 3D Masters 2010 Event in London

Harris is an active participant in industry-wide 3DTV standardization efforts

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, is a Gold Sponsor of TVBEurope magazine’s upcoming 3D Masters 2010 event taking place in London on June 22. This new event gathers together leading figures of the 3D production and broadcasting world in a one-day forum to exchange their knowledge with an audience of peers.

“Harris is an active participant in industry-wide 3DTV standardization efforts, and the company's 3DTV solutions encompass both the baseband and the file-based workflow needed to support 3DTV, so it was a natural decision for Harris to be involved in this important event,” said Stan Moote, vice president of corporate development, Harris Broadcast Communications.

“3D has been the buzzword of the last year, and many companies at the NAB Show in April were demonstrating 3D solutions on their stands. However, there is still a lack of understanding about the realities of implementing 3DTV workflows, especially since the HD and 3 Gb/s transitions are still underway. Events such as the 3D Masters will help provide a better understanding of the technologies and techniques of 3D broadcast,” said Moote.

Media companies are already taking their first steps into 3DTV broadcast using Harris technology. Harris collaborated with Madison Square Garden for the first-ever network hockey telecast produced in 3DTV (for the Rangers vs. Islanders match-up held March 24). Harris supplied NetVX™ encoders and a range of signal processing equipment, which was used to ensure synchronous transport of the 3DTV signals from Madison Square Garden to the network operations centre.

Whether a broadcaster is building a facility from the ground up or adding 3DTV capabilities to an existing operation, Harris can deliver a complete 3DTV workflow — from content contribution to processing to distribution. Supporting this broadcast workflow are proven Harris technologies including multiviewers, automation systems, asset management, master control switchers, production graphics systems, networking and encoding solutions, ingest and playout video servers, fiber optics, routers, editors and signal processors.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
