MEO, the new television service from Portugal Telecom (PT), and Media Luso, the broadcast services company that is part of the MEDIAPRO group, recently set a new standard for professional surfing with the live 3D broadcast of the Rip Curl Pro Event in Portugal. As part of the ASP World Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Portugal took place in Peniche, home to Europe’s greatest pipeline called Supertubos, between October 7th and 18th. All live replays were managed with the newly upgraded 3D XT[2] servers from EVS.

For this first 3D surfing experience, Media Luso – with the collaboration of MEDIAPRO’s 3D research department – provided a dedicated 3D-HD OB truck with stereoscopic camera rigs from Kronomav. EVS XT[2] production servers were employed for the recording of multiple camera feeds, and controlled by MulticamLSM for live 3D replay operations and IPDirector content management software for highlights creation.
