ONSIGHT Digital Installs Eyeheight 3D Legaliser

Eyeheight's new LE-3D Video Legaliser will feature prominently on Stand 8.D92 at IBC 2011 in Amsterdam from 9-13 September

ONSIGHT Digital has purchased Eyeheight's  "LE-3D Video Legaliser" that provides identical legalisers working in parallel to a single control panel so the operator can be confident that each level of 3D video capture is precisely in compliance.

According to ONSIGHT Chief Engineer Rik Tester, "We've invested in extensive 3D research and development in order to make 3D productions simple for our clients and have been doing 3D for broadcast and digital cinema for years. As exciting as it is, for 3D to gain full acceptance the content needs to be of the highest quality to guarantee an exceptional viewing experience. Existing compliance methods meant that stereo images were processed as separate left and right eye passes, which then have to be recombined afterwards onto HDCAM SR 422 3D format.

This is both time consuming and costly. Moreover, we want to guarantee that the legaliser will process images for each eye in exactly the same way. Our existing process was good, but we thought it could be better.

"We asked Eyeheight if it was possible to develop a legaliser that could process both images with a 'single brain' if you like, which would provide unquestionable consistency and considerable cost savings. Within a week they had a working model that we tested - completely to our satisfaction - that now fits on the back of our 3D grading and finishing suite and as well as our machine room for tape-to-tape transfer and standards conversion work. There is nothing else like it available on the market today."

Eyeheight Sales Director Martin Moore said, "We have worked with ONSIGHT for years and are delighted to have developed a product that not only meets their high standards but has helped to streamline their processes while reducing overhead costs."
