Royal Wedding was "London’s biggest OB to date"
The BBC was in charge of the main images from inside the Abbey, where access was at its most complicated. These pictures were also be made available to ITN which in turn will provided content for ITV, Sky News and a plethora of international broadcasters. In terms of the OB provision, NEP Visions was delivering the coverage from inside the Abbey, where more than 20 manned and fixed cameras were in place. Included amongst that number were 16 specialist cameras supplied by ACS with mounts supplied by SIS Live. This included one camera positioned over the Sacrarium in the Abbey for the first time, achieving a dramatic high shot.

ACS plays part in The Royal Wedding
ACS provided over twenty SMARThead™ remote head systems and camera channels supplying coverage for the BBC, Sky News and ITN, not forgetting the world’s media. An HD Cineflex V14 Stabilised Mount was also supplied and operated by ACS providing aerial coverage of the crowds and balcony scenes at Buckingham Palace. But it was perhaps within Westminster Abbey itself that our crew met their biggest challenge fulfilling the majority of the camera positions that were to broadcast the ceremony world-wide. CS Technical Director, Sam Heaphy, and his team delivered and installed 16 of the 23 camera positions within the Abbey for the BBC. Utilising 12 Sony P1 Camera channels and 4 Ikegami HDL 51 cameras, two of the remote heads included a 40x lens; a first for ACS’ new development with this particular lens and SMARThead™

A Royal Wedding with AURUS and CANTUS
On a fine day in April, not all of those invited to the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton were sitting, dressed in their finery, in the pews for the ceremony; two smartly turned out STAGETEC equipped outside broadcast trucks were at Westminster Abbey to cover the event for the BBC, one for TV and one for Radio. aking the role of ‘host broadcaster’, the BBC provided international versions of the audio mix suitable for broadcasting partners to add in their own commentary. BBC National Networks and Local Radio took the service and globally it went to 180 countries via the BBC World Service.

U.K. Graphics Company MOOV to Attend Royal Wedding
MOOV, the graphics company of choice for leading broadcasters including BBC, ESPN, RTÉ, ITV, Sky Italia, and Channel 4, was using two Chyron HyperX3 on-air graphics systems to provide graphics for the BBC's live coverage of the royal wedding of Prince William of Wales and Catherine "Kate" Middleton. MOOV installed one HyperX3 system in a studio at the media village outside Buckingham Palace and a second at a temporary studio adjacent to Westminster Abbey, and together the Chyron systems supplied both studio graphics and graphics for the wedding service on April 29.

On-Location Coverage of Royal Wedding in London
SENCORE's MRD 3187B receiver decoder was deployed by CBS News for its remote network coverage of the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on April 29. Paired with a high-performance HD encoder, the MRD 3187B delivered MPEG-4 AVC compressed live HD feeds from London for broadcasts of "The Early Show" and "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric." "The royal wedding captivated audiences all over the world and was one of the biggest live events we will cover all year, so it was critical that we acquire the highest quality HD signals with minimal delay," said Mel Olinsky, director of operations at CBS Evening News.

CTV Chose Snell Alchemist Ph.C – HD for Coverage of Royal Wedding
CTV, Canada's largest private broadcaster, chose Snell's Alchemist Ph.C – HD motion-compensated standards converters for the network's coverage of the royal wedding of Britain's Prince William and Catherine Middleton. For the royal wedding coverage, CTV deployed eight Alchemist Ph.C. – HD units at its main broadcasting center in Buckingham Palace. On the wedding day, the Alchemist units received live feeds in 1080 50i from U.K.-based broadcasters supplying pool coverage, and converted them to 1080 59.94i for delivery to CTV's OB vehicles and distribution to the Canadian viewing audience.

Angénieux Zoom Lenses Capture Royal Wedding in 3D
On Sight was the facilities company chosen by Sky to supply the 3D equipment and technical crews for the BSkyB Royal Wedding 3D production. The April 29th wedding was not broadcast live in 3D. The 3D material was edited and broadcast beginning Tuesday May 3rd. Robin Broomfield, 3D Operations and Development Manager for Sky said, “We only had three camera positions. The choice of equipment was based on reliability and quality (it was obviously important to have a good archive as 'future proofed' as possible.) On Sight did a great job of providing the equipment and staff necessary to achieve this and were involved early in the planning stages.”
